A Pair of Nuts crack up Methodist students
Johnny Trablanco and Yamil Piedra are “a pair of nuts.” At least that’s the name of their Emmy Award winning comedy duo.
Trablanco and Piedra stopped at Methodist University on January 26 as part of their “Invasion of Nuts 2011 Tour.” The dynamic duo has been working together for more than 12 years and met while they were students at Florida International University, in Miami, FL. They could be called a modern day version of Abbot and Costello, if Abbot and Costello were Cubans from Florida using their Hispanic heritage to fashion a universal comedic style.
“It was like a public version of Saturday Night Live,” said Ryan Dacey, a sophomore who attended the comedy show. “I was impressed. It was really good.”
Trablanco and Piedra have been featured prominently on Tosh.0, Last Call with Carson Daily, MegaTV and many have had millions of views for their viral videos on websites such as College Humor, YouTube and Funny or Die. They co-stared in the Spanish MegaTV sketch comedy show, “El Vacilon,” which won them a Suncoast Emmy Award for writing.
“It was an excellent and good time,” said Doris Jackson, Director of Student Activities. Jackson was responsible for booking the comedy duo and bringing them to Methodist. She said she was glad to see that students enjoyed the evening with “A Pair of Nuts.”
“It was much better than I expected,” said Jasmine Campbell, a freshman.
Methodist was just one of the stops in “A Pair of Nuts” 2011 tour schedule. Students who missed their performance at Methodist can go to nutscomedy.com for a list of upcoming performances.
